OREMAJ MAN

OREMAJ MAN (pronounced ‘O-ree-maj’) is a new fragrance that is taking the cosmetics world by storm since its introduction into the market February 2005. Created by Alabama native Jamero Callins, President and CEO of Oremaj Group LLC, this fragrance appeals to the attitude of the masses.

The concept of OREMAJ, meaning “Circle of Life,” was founded in May 2004.  “While there are many great fragrances being launched, Oremaj is unique because it has emerged as an incredible answer to a simple prayer,” says Callins.  With a lyrical blend of ingredients, such as bergamot, lime and lavender, Oremaj fragrance mystifies, yet dazzles those caught in its rapture.

OREMAJ MAN is a fragrance that inspired Callins to refer to it as the “Purpose Driven Man’s Fragrance,” particularly because it was Callins’ own drive for purpose that led him to this amazing discovery.

We recently caught up with Callins to learn more about him and this new fragrance line.

The Jamero Callins Interview

BMIA.com:  Jamero, thank you for taking the time to participate in this interview.  Tell us a little bit about you.  (Family background, where you grew up, etc.)

Jamero Callins:  I’m from Birmingham Alabama, the oldest son of four siblings.

BMIA.com:  Tell us about Orémaj?

Jamero Callins:  Oremaj is unique; the name comes from Jamero spelled backwards.

BMIA.com:  You’ve built relationships with major retail outlets for your fragrance line.  What was that like and who are some of your partners?

Jamero Callins:  Worked relentlessly to build the company, with very limited funds financially.  As for partners, we’re in talks with Macys; we’re also in the process of launching a major PR campaign to increase awareness of the product.

BMIA.com:  Do you have plans to expand beyond the fragrance business?

Jamero Callins:  Yes, I’d like to have a clothing line complete with accessories, jewelry and shoes.

BMIA.com:  The cosmetic business is huge and competitive.  How have you managed to carve out a niche in the industry?

Jamero Callins:  By being the first African American to distribute and manufacturer a fragrance.  Our cosmetics are all natural.

BMIA.com:  You are a spiritual person.  What role has religion played in your life?

Jamero Callins:  The “O” in Oremaj means: "The Never Ending Circle of Life."  The Lord has played a major part in my life and I give all of the glory to him.”

BMIA.com:  Where do you get your drive and energy?

Jamero Callins:  Persistence and diligence plays a huge role in my drive and energy.

BMIA.com:  Who are some of the people in your life that you admire?

Jamero Callins:  My grandfather and Sean P-Diddy Combs.

BMIA.com:  What is the single most important message that black people need to hear about building and owning a business?

Jamero Callins:  People need to know that there is not enough African American owned businesses.  Second there is financial help for African Americans.

BMIA.com:  What advice would you give to someone who aspires to start a business?

Jamero Callins:  Be kind hearted and look to turn negatives into positives.
